Responsibilities

  • Assist in designing roadway projects from preliminary to final design.
  • Collaborate with the complimentary disciplines (roadway, drainage, structural, traffic, public involvement and environmental) to develop transportation projects such as roadway, bridge, rail, transportation planning, and preliminary design for environmental documents.
  • Compile data, perform and check dimensional and routine calculations, and ensure compliance with required design criteria.
  • Mentor less experienced engineers or EITs.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.
  • 4-10 years of civil / roadway design experience.
  • Texas PE or ability to obtain within six months or less.
  • Basic knowledge of all aspects of transportation design, including hydraulic & hydrologic, structural, utility and traffic design.
  • Proficient in design geometry (horizontal alignments, vertical alignments, typical sections, super-elevation) of roadways and highways in accordance with industry design standards including AASHTO, municipalities, TxDOT & other DOTs.
  • Proficient in MicroStation, ProjectWise, OpenRoads and InRoads/Geopak.
  • Basic to advanced knowledge of 3D modeling.
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Project).
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to plan, conceptualize and anticipate next steps.
  • Capable of recognizing conflicts and discrepancies with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively on a team of engineers, technical experts and designers, as well as working independently with little supervision.
  • Strong verbal, written, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with Clients.
  • TxDOT project experience (other DOT is acceptable).
  • TxDOT pre-certification is preferred.
